About Me

Working in metal transports me back in time to when I watched my dad take apart engines. This fascination with deconstructing and reconstructing parts of a whole translates itself into my jewelry work. When examining ordinary objects under a microscope it can be seen that even the most haphazardly arranged items all have an inherent structure to them. This becomes the foundation of my creative process, in that I extract the geometry from the objects and rearrange them into something new. Throughout the making of a piece I obsess over the minute details to ensure that the perfection of the form is not lost through discrepancies. The way I create is centered on being orderly and methodical in my notes, sketches, and when working with the metal itself. I find that humans naturally gravitate towards structure in their daily lives, and this desire for the systematic is what I seek to translate within my pieces.

My jewelry tends to be collection oriented, with a central theme that carries over into every creation. When choosing the material, I prefer using silver for its luster and light grey coloring which pairs well with black for a sharp contrast. My work tends to be created through casting to ensure that the objects are strong yet light weight. By using geometric forms my jewelry pieces become focused on the crisp outline of the shape and the negative space that divides them. The organic nature of the human body creates a striking contrast with the structural aesthetic of my jewelry work.

By focusing on my subject matter, geometry in nature, I can satiate my desire for order and structure in my everyday life. When I begin dismantling objects into their basic components I feel that gives me a better understanding of the way things work. My work seeks to embody balance and resolution, with the subject matter creating an interest in the surroundings. Through enlarging a part of the world that goes unnoticed, I aim to bridge the gap between humanity and our impact on the objects we interact with.
